IT Skills Standards Committee
The Ministry of Higher Education (“MOHE”), Malaysia has played a key
role to support and encourage students and working adults in conforming and enhancing
their IT skill competencies. The Malaysian IT Skill Standards and IT Common Body
of Knowledge have been develop to ensure the standards of the national IT knowledge
and skills are at par with those of developed countries. Therefore, to ensure
that the Malaysian IT Skill Standards are ever evolving to the latest technology
and competencies needed by the industries, a committee has been identified to
ensure constant updates to both the Malaysian IT Skill Standards and IT Common
Body of Knowledge.
The MITPE Committee comprises of members from MOHE, Public Service Department
(“JPA”), 17 public universities (IT Council), Open University Malaysia
(“OUM”), Multimedia University (“MMU”), Standards and
Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (“SIRIM”), Association
of the Computer and Multimedia Industry Malaysia (“PIKOM”), Malaysian
Communications and Multimedia Commission (“MCMC”), Multimedia Super
Corridor (“MDC”), Malaysia Administration and Modernization Planning
Unit (MAMPU) and other private entities. From time to time the Committee will
meet to update and revise the IT Skill Standards as well as other related matters
to ensure it keep pace with the changes in the IT environment.
Two workshops held on 29 December 2004 and 15 February 2005 have been conducted
to moderate and update both the Malaysian IT Skill Standards and IT Common Body
of Knowledge. After the moderation, both the Malaysian IT Skill Standards and
IT Common Body of Knowledge have been sent to JITEC-IPA for a review and acceptance.
As a result, JITEC-IPA has provided feedback to the Malaysian IT Skill Standards
and IT Common Body of Knowledge and thus accepting both the Malaysian IT Skill
Standards and IT Common Body of Knowledge. The IT Skill Standards Committee
has also endorsed both the Malaysian IT Skill Standards and IT Common Body of
Knowledge.
